In this self-paced course, students follow Bilbo Baggins from the comfort of the Shire into danger, temptation, courage, sacrifice, and unexpected growth. Through readings, quizzes, and reflection questions, students examine how ordinary characters are called beyond themselves and formed by trials along the road. The course helps students understand plot, character, theme, and symbolism while encouraging them to reflect on bravery, friendship, greed, mercy, and home.
